Here is Part 2 of our feature on tips to decorate your balcony. In case you missed Part 1, catch it here!
Plants have to be part of the balcony. They not only add interest, they can be functional. Herbs are a popular addition and not only add interest, they can make dinner a lot more fun. Use them to cook with and enjoy the beauty they bring to the balcony at the same time. Not all plants need to be annuals. Some can be evergreens or small tress and plants that stay green all year long. A good mixture can add interest and bring the needed look to provide a friendly relaxing environment. Use beautiful pots in order to give extra color to the area and don’t forget they need fertilizer often as they are in pots.
Lighting is also important and should be well thought out. Candles are great in the evening, but remember they need to be taken in during the day. It doesn’t take long in the hot sun for them to melt and be unusable. But for those long evenings, they are great and create a wonderful ambiance. If there is an electrical outlet on the balcony, it can be used for some extra lighting. Little lanterns can be great and they are offered in many different themes at most department and craft stores.
If privacy is important, bamboo fencing can be added. It is very inexpensive and easy to put up. Most home supply stores offer this and they will often be glad to explain exactly how to install this product. Everyone loves some privacy, so consider this easy option.
Finally, a central theme might be a good way to make a statement and provide a good way to decorate. Choose something that matches the area of county where the balcony is located. South Western themes can be easy and the plants, furniture and lighting can all reflect this great look. Some people love the idea of warm tropical areas where they may never be able to visit, so decorating with this theme can be a lot of fun. It is a way of living out a dream.
A home with a balcony is a great way for families and friends to have a wonderful space to enjoy outside. Moving or staying put really doesn’t matter. Remember though, if a home has a balcony, it is often the icing on the cake.
