Are You Renting an Apartment Going into Foreclosure? You Still Have Options – Part Three

Be sure to read part two of Are You Renting an Apartment Going into Foreclosure? You Still Have Options to learn all of your options.

Contact an Attorney
The foreclosure process is a very stressful one. You should try to stay in contact with your landlord but sometimes this isn’t possible. It may also be helpful to talk to an attorney. Make sure you talk to a reputable attorney. One way to find a reputable one is to read reviews. Another way is to ask friends and family for a recommendation. Our Nationwide Relocation Services reviews let future customers know we have reliable services. This is what you want to find in an attorney as well.

If you receive an eviction notice, you should contact the lender or the attorney that is assigned to the house. On the eviction letter you obtain you should see the name of the lender as well as the attorney. Make sure to keep the eviction notice and gather up all your proof of making payments to help you once you talk to them.

You may also be able to talk to them about getting a new deal. Some lenders may allow you to continue to live there with a new lease, making it very important to contact them as soon as you receive this notice. Stay calm and explain the situation. You never know what can happen.

Contact Utility Company
Was your landlord paying your utilities? Once the apartment goes into foreclosure, your landlord may not be able to make these kinds of payments. If this happens to you, be sure to call your utility company as soon as possible. You will want to explain the situation and state that you are renting the unit or home, and that your landlord was responsible for making the payment.

You will also need to make it clear that the home is now in foreclosure, which is why your landlord has stopped making payments. Most utility companies understand the situation and will hold off from shutting off your water and electricity while it is in the process of being foreclosed on. If there are further problems, you can contact the lender or an attorney to find out what your options are. Try to make arrangements before your electricity is turned off. It will be easier to figure out what to do while you still have your utilities. Once they have been turned off, it can be more difficult to get your utility company to turn them back on. This will vary greatly depending on the company you are dealing with.
