The Similarities
Both WiFi reading devices are in the same size and weight division, approximately seven ounces, with only fractions of an ounce or two difference. The same goes for size, both are basically comfortable to hold. Book title choices are in the hundreds of thousands and you can read magazines as well. Battery life is pretty similar as is the page turning techniques. Unlike the tablets available with apps too numerous to count, the readers focus on reading. The Nook and the Kindle promote higher education by eliminating apps and drawing your attention to the amazing collection of genres and titles. Both contenders offer 60 second download time. While their font choices are different they are all likeable.

Having pointed out several details where the readers seemed equal, Kindle 3 has just upped its game!
- Screen contrast surpasses both Nook and the Kindle 2.
- The Kindle 3 has speedier page turning - far from sluggish!
- Lighter for one handed reading it now weighs in at 8.7 ounces.\
- The battery life is good for an entire month while the Nook lasts about 10 days.
- The Kindle 3 is tops in the audio arena: stereo over mono and text to speech capability.
- Kindle 3 has also made great strides to pass Barnes & Noble's Nook in book titles and has folders that can help organize your collections for optimal storage.
Where Nook Comes Out Ahead
Nook beats out Kindle 3 when it comes to library ebooks and the LendMe feature and color screen, not to mention their retail exposure, ePub support and replaceable battery. However, there have been some discomforting rumors about the financial stability of Barnes and Noble.
