If your last child is leaving for college, does it make any sense to have that three bedroom house? Some people like to have an extra room just in case one of their children return for a period of time; however, it still means you can look for a two bedroom house instead of the three bedrooms. Not only will you have to pay less for the smaller house but it also means less maintenance for you.
If you are getting ready to retire, many people realize that there is no reason to hold on to their big house. Maybe you want to relocate to a warmer climate or take trips and travel the world. Either way, it is an excellent idea to look for a smaller house with less maintenance. You do not want to spend your retirement cleaning rooms that are never used.
There are many financial benefits that come from moving into a smaller house. As mentioned earlier, you can spend less money on the price of the house plus all the maintenance you will save. Some of the maintenance things you can save your money on are:
- Less lawn care
- Upkeep of house
- Less air conditioning to keep the whole house cool or warm
Be realistic, how much time to do spend in your home? Are you the type that likes to go out and be social or enjoys being outside with nature? If you are just using your house as a crash pad, you may want to find something that better suits your needs. Of course, you want a home that is inviting but oftentimes it doesn't have to be big to be cozy.
